Our visitors love to hear what we are up to at the Willow Tea Room and a few people have suggested that I should write a blog – so I thought okay I’ll give it a go!
So what have we been up to recently…
On Monday evening, I was delighted to attend a fundraising event at Two Fat Ladies, raising money for Abercorn Secondary School. The Willow Tea Rooms are part of Glasgow Restaurant Association (GRA) chaired by Ryan James who owns Two Fat Ladies. Ryan does amazing work not only on behalf of his members but also for a number of charities etc around the city and it is so good to be able to support him with this whenever we can.
Tuesday morning saw us celebrate our first anniversary of our Knit’N’Natter at the Willow Tea Rooms at Watt Brothers. We work with the Woolly Hugs charity and make baby blankets, hats and angel bears for the Royal Children’s Hospital and the Glasgow Maternity Services and were delighted to welcome Kirstine Noonan-Stewart, Advance NeoNatal Nurse Practitioner at QUEH and present her with all the ladies’ work over the last year. It was a great morning and we look forward to continuing with this over the coming months.
New menus coming soon…
Around this time we work on our menus and the team have been very busy on this over the last few weeks – trying out some of our new savoury dishes and tempting treats. We put our homemade caramel shortcake onto our menu a few weeks ago and it is so popular – well done Anna and Amy – one down a few more to go! Last week, Lyndsey and I were working on the recipe for our Finnan Haddie Fishcakes – even although we say so ourselves they are very tasty!
#Inspired by Mackintosh – This year we will be celebrating the 150th anniversary of the birth of one of Glasgow’s greatest artists and architects, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, more details coming over the next few weeks, including all about “It’s Cakes and Cheers for 150 years”.
My week ended on a high when on Thursday night I was the winner of the first No1 Magazine Amazing Woman award for Outstanding Business Contribution. We had a fantastic night and listening to the inspiring stories from the other winners was so humbling. I was lucky enough to be sitting with Amanda Kopel who set up Frank’s Law – such a fantastic cause – if you have time check out their facebook page, here.
